The 2023 Houzz UK Kitchen Trends report has revealed the most common built-in features that UK residents have added or had upgraded in their bespoke kitchens.
Custom storage solutions, extra prep and dining areas, and tech upgrades are among the most popular updates that people desire in the kitchen. Here’s an overview of the top features to add extra value and functionality to your kitchen:
Pantry cabinets
In the Houzz survey, 41 per cent of respondents said that their kitchen renovation included a new pantry or pantry cabinets to include extra hidden storage for supplies.
Custom pantries can be fitted in corners or as a stand-alone unit to hid away extra foods, crockery, and kitchen tools to declutter your kitchen.
Kitchen island
Incorporating a kitchen island into the design of your space can increase your workspace, add further storage, and make for a smoother workflow by including appliances or the sink into the design of your island. 38% of people added a new kitchen island or upgraded their existing one when having their kitchen redesigned.
Breakfast bar
A breakfast bar is a charming place for family members to gather and have a cuppa or play a board game. Built-in seating and added shelving or cupboards can enhance the comfort and practicality of your kitchen space.
Electronics charging station
A quarter of people surveyed said that they chose to add an electronics charging station into their kitchen design. Other technology additions in demand include Wi-Fi connectivity, integrated smartphone and tablet controls, colour touchscreen displays, and connections to smart home devices or smart meters.
Wine fridge/rack
Home is where the wine is… 23% per cent of new kitchens included wine storage, a luxury addition to a kitchen or bespoke home bar.
Kitchen peninsula
For homes that may not have enough practical space for a kitchen island, a kitchen peninsula is a popular choice. 17% of people said they wanted their kitchen to feature a peninsula, to add extra workspace and storage without wasting valuable space.
