Sociable Kitchens

Creating Sociable Kitchens

How to create more sociable kitchens

Over recent years sociable kitchens have become very popular in many households. The aim of a sociable kitchen is to create a space for family and friends to gather around. Sociable kitchens need to ideally integrate with the dining area to make socialising easy. Open-plan kitchens and dining rooms often give the space to create sociable kitchens. Having an area to cook, eat and socialise in is often a preferred option with a many families.

The Breakfast Bar

Space permitting, incorporating a breakfast bar into your design, can be great for people especially with children. Its can be ideal for quick, informal snacks or carrying out homework, the separate dining table can be used to gather for the family meals.

There are many ways to create a breakfast bar into your kitchen. Curved cabinetry can be added with a seat at the end of a unit with a small overhang to improve the flow and movement within a open-plan living space, in-turn creating a small breakfast bar area. If you prefer adding an kitchen island to your open-plan living space, why not add a small circular breakfast bar perched on the corner of your island unit? This can be a great way of achieving that extra seating space without loosing too much precious preparation space. Having the corner seating space, allows you to still prepare the food whilst chatting with family or friends.

The Kitchen Island

Kitchen islands are perfect for socialising with family and friends. As mentioned above seating areas can be also added to the design to help extend the living space. A kitchen island creates a place for you to chat with family and friends whilst preparing and cooking. There are many different types of kitchen islands that can be created to add to your open-plan living space. Cookers, sinks and extractor hoods can all be added to the central area, space permitting. Most homeowners want the kitchen island to include storage and drawers for that extra storage space. The first thing to consider if you are thinking of having a kitchen island is how you are planning to use the space, is it just for cooking or cooking and socialising?  A kitchen island does not have to be the same colour as the rest of your kitchen, however it should still complement the main design.
